Sri Sivan Temple is a holy visit which is carried out by the devotees from different places of the world in the honor of God Shiva. The Sri Sivan Temple has gained its physical appearance in the early 1850’s.

The Sri Sivan Temple is positioned at 24 Geylang East Avenue 2 (S) 389752 in Singapore. Devotees consider Shiva as a whole sole of the earth. The word Sri means Holy that’s why this temple is also called as “Holy Sivan Temple”. The main gate of the temple is inscribed by Lord Shiva, Lord Ganesh, Nandi and two other Hindu gods or goddesses. The visit to this temple is a spiritual experience. The darshan of Lord Shiva provide ‘inner peace’ to the devotees. This temple is unique in its architecture and design. People can visit Sri Sivan Temple by mean of bus and MRT. People take the bus from desired location and reach to the bus stop of B81229 from bus 80 and 155. The temple is at the walking distance of 3 minutes from the bus stop of B81229. There are so many other bus stops which lies under the radius of 2 km from the temple they are- Bus Stop @ 71011, Bus Stop @ 71179, Bus Stop @ 71171, Bus Stop @ 70289, Bus Stop @ 70281, Bus Stop @ 70049, Bus Stop @ 70129, Bus Stop @ 70121, Bus Stop @ 70139 etc. People also carried out the journey by mean of MRT. There are many MRT stations they are- Tai Seng MRT Station, MacPherson MRT Station, Paya Lebar MRT Station, Dakota MRT Station, Eunos MRT Station and Aljunied MRT Station.

Security And Some Tips

For maintaining security there are Fire Post, Fire station, Police Centre, Police coast guard, Police Division, Police Office, Police Post, Police Stations and SCDF bomb shelter in Singapore. These all are active all the time for the security of Sri Sivan Temple. There should be a separate queue for woman while moving towards the upstairs of the temple. An isolated room should be there to keep the luggage at a secure place.

When To Visit

Sri Sivan temple is suitable to visit for whole of the year. This temple is opened at 6 AM to noon and 6 PM to 9 PM. The best time to visit this temple is during Shivratri as that time is considered as good for offering prayer towards God Shiva.

What To See And Do

The frontage of the temple entails two primary colours i.e. pink and beige. The area’s design is idiosyncratic whose shape is octagonal and is covered with coloured engraved sculptures. There is a monumental tower called as ‘Gopuram or Gopura’ placed at the back of the temple. Before entering into the temple the shoes or sleepers should be put off. There are 20 sculptures which are beautifully engraved onto the walls of the temple. After that there comes so many stairs which takes the visitors to the main prayer hall where the deity of Lord Shiva is placed in the form of lingham and thus visitor takes the darshan of the Lord Shiva and offer prayer to him.It provides the peaceful environment. All the rituals are performed by the priest. This temple is a nice touch to Hindu culture.

This is a Hindu temple therefore so many Hindu festivals are celebrated here with great joy and enthusiasm. The Hindu festivals which are celebrated here are Maha Shivaratri, Vasantha Navratri, Guru Peryarchi, Navratri and Skantha Shasti.

The other place which is good to visit after Sri Sivan temple is Foo Hai Chan Monastry. It is right next to this temple. It is a great collection of 1000 armed mother goddess with beautiful architecture and design.

Visitor should also hire a travel guide who will make them well known about each and every part of the temple including its history.
