Dwarkadhish Temple

Another name of Dwarkadhish Temple is Jagat Mandir. This shrine is the holy place of Hindus. It is worshipped and visited in the honour of Lord Krishna. This temple is sited at Dwarka in Jamnagar district of Gujarat. It stands among the four important pilgrimages of Hindus. Aboti Brahmins use to conduct the worship or puja within the shrine. A large number of devotees rushed towards this temple for getting salvation. The temple of Dwarkadhish was constructed by one of the grandson of the Lord Krishna. The shrine is made up of limestone and sand. The flag which lies at the top of the shrine symbolizes the Lord’s magnificence. The construction of this temple is unique. The temple is decorated by rich carving. It is considered to be as an architectural gemstone.

Getting There

One can reach Dwarkadhish Temple by mean of three modes: road, rail and air. There is a good network of local buses which connect the shrine to many cities. Regular train services are available from the cities of Ahmedabad, Rajkot and Jamnagar. The nearest airport from Dwarka is Jamnagar. Indian airlines are run by government and Air Deccan and Jet airway are the private airlines to solve the purpose.

Security And Some Tips

There is arrangement of tight security within the shrine of Dwarkadhish. CCTV cameras are installed in the compartment of the temple so as to keep an eye on the each and every activity of the devotee. Yatris should not carry cash and ornaments with them. They should keep their luggage place at safe and secure place.

When To Visit

The best time to visit this temple is during October to march. There is no entry fee to visit this temple. It is opened for all the days of the week. The timings of this temple are: 5:00 AM – 12:00 PM and 4:00 PM – 9:00 PM. The duration of visiting this temple is 1 hour.

What To See And Do

Dwarkadhish Temple entails a tall tower and a hall of audience. The temple’s entrance is occupied by two gates. First is Moksha Dwar i.e. door towards salvation is the main entrance (north entrance) which takes the devotees to main market. Second one is Swarga Dwara i.e. door to heaven which is the south entrance. There are 56 steps outside this door which takes the devotees towards Gomti River. The main sanctum consists of central platform at which the idol of Lord Krishnaalong with the deities of Pradyumna, Baldevaji (Balrama) and Aniruddha (grandsons of Lord Krishna). This temple also consists of other sanctums which belongs to Kuseswara Mahadeva (Shiva), Lakshmi-Narayan, Devaki (mother of Lord Krishna), Lakshmi, Satyabhama, Saraswati, Jambuvati, Veni-madhava (Lord Vishnu) and Radhika. Arti and abhishek puja use to be taken place daily at regular intervals. The statue of the god is adorned with flowers, jewels and new clothes. After that sweat meat and Prasad is distributed among the devotees.

The festival which is celebrated is the festival of Janamasthmi during which a large number of devotees flocked towards this temple. So many bhajans and aarti are chanted during this festival. The Prasad of panjiri is distributed among the devotees. Devotees use to take fast during this festival.

There are many interesting places to visit around this temple. These places are Rukmani Temple, Bhadrakali Mandir, Gomati Ghat, Chamunda Mataji Temple, Moveshwer Mahadev Mandir, Vyomani Mata Temple and Madhi (Okha-Madhi) etc.

Travel Tips

Yatris should take video camera with them in order to trap each and every activity of the whole trip. They should also take a personal diary for having the written record of the whole trip along with the feelings and emotions at that period of time. They should also hire a tourist guide for having the complete knowledge of the shrine including its history. They should also take first aid for curing frequent injury.
