Jal Mahal is also known as Water Palace, which is situated on the middle of the Man Sagar Lake in the Jaipur City. The Palace and lake around the Jal Mahal were renovated in the 18th century by Maharaja Jai Singh II. The Jal Mahal Palace according to its name it is a fabulous palace which is floating on water. It is located at a distance of 6.5 kms away from Pink City. This palace is standing inside the Man Sagar Lake. The Man Sagar Lake was formed by constructing a dam between the two hills by Sawai Man Singh. This is a best example of Rajputs architecture. The atmosphere of this palace always remains cool as it is situated inside the lake as well as also accompanied by the hills around the lake. In earlier days it was a spot for the members of Royal families to shoot ducks from this palace.
It is one of the best examples of Rajput architectural beauty and technical excellence. The palace seems very beautiful in the evening as the entire complex looks like bathed in flood lights. Hundreds of migratory birds can be seen swimming in winters in the Man Sagar Lake. The view of the Jal Mahal is eye catching. Rajput styled wooden boats have been created by the traditional boat makers of Vrindavan. The view of the Aravalli hills which has many temples and forts on it, can be seen the across the lake.
Jal Tarang is a mixed project of public- private in 100 acres of land for tourism development in the city of Jaipur. The restoration of Jal Mahal involves the efforts and skills of international experts, traditional master craftsmen, historians, architects and authorities of art, culture and design. Now the Jal Mahal is becoming a new destination of pleasure of Jaipur in the day time and iconic image showing its beauty in the night. Chameli Bagh was on the terrace of Jal Mahal is now traced retaining the elements of original pattern and recreated it using the best Mughal and Rajput style. Jal Mahal Resort Pvt. Ltd. tries to establish a new bench mark in private public partnerships in India by renovating and restoring Jal Mahal and Man Sagar Lake and completing the project of Jal Tarang. To revitalize the heritage site of Jal Mahal and Man Sagar Lake, the Government of Rajasthan and Jal Mahal Resorts Pvt. Ltd. are taking initiatives to change this valley into a visible and vibrant tourist destination for domestic, local and international tourists. It is a dream project for Jal Mahal Resorts Pvt. At present there are no facilities for tourist at Jal Mahal. This 100 acres of land is divided into the hospitality and public part. The public section contains 20 restaurants which will serve the food items ranging from 50-500. All of these restaurants will be facing towards water. There are three phases in total in this project. The first phase of the project includes restoration of the Man Sagar Lake and the Jal Mahal. The second phase includes entertainment and retail facilities and will be open to public on January 2013. Work on the second phase has been started. The third phase of the project will be completed by January 2014 and it includes up gradation of hotels. Total estimated cost of this project is Rs. 1000 crores. The Rajasthan Government has spent Rs. 24 crores and other 20 crores is spent by Jal Mahal Resorts to give the Man Sagar Lake a new life by cleaning the 2 million tons of toxic waste and oxygenating it. In the proposed project of Jal Tarang, one part of it will have mid market hotels with a convention centre to handle 2000 people and a luxury hotel and spa.
