Vintage steam express train “Akbar” all set to roll from Delhi to Alwar!!

Once more, the steam tourist train that has 2 coaches pulled by steam engine, named ‘Akbar’ is geared up to begin its package tour from Delhi to Alwar in the current season starting from 26th October, 2013. Akbar, the forty eight year old steam engine ‘Akbar’ will tow the train. It is one of the ultimate existing vintage steam engines that was created long before at the “Chittranjan Locomotive Works”. The steam engine has been named after Akbar, the brave Mughal monarch. This Pacific group of Broad Gauge loco is able to chug in speeds equal to 110 kmph. Also, it is utilized to drag the prominent express trains. Being out of service for several years, ‘Akbar’ Loco was re-established, repaired, renovated and domesticated in superb working condition at the “Amritsar workshop of Northern Railway” in the month of October, 2012. Amritsar Workshop has obtained exclusive feature of being the solitary workshop of Indian Railway which is restoring ‘steam’ locos and performing Periodic refurbishment of such locomotives.

Movie performance:

In recent times, this vintage steam engine was caught in news owing to its appearance in the renowned movie called “Bhag Milkha Bhag”. This movie displayed the celebrated Indian contender, Shri Milkha Singh. The steam engine dragged train carried everyone to the longing circumstances of musical chugging and shrilling in the form of typical “chhug-chhug” and harmonized toss of black smoke from the steam locomotive. The home of this loco is the “Rewari Steam Locomotive heritage shed” of the Northern Railway.

Akbar Chugs from Delhi to Alwar, Rajasthan:

Akbar, the tourist steam train begins to chug from Delhi Cantonment Station of the capital and continues all the way to Alwar (138 kms) in Rajasthan passing through Rewari on a tour package which comprise a stopover at the Sariska National Park in the vicinity of Alwar. Hence, tourists will get a golden opportunity to visit tiger sighting at the famous Sariska National Park. Presently, this train will run between October, 2013 and April, 2014 in the current season, on every 2nd and 4th Saturdays that has started its service from 26th October 2013 as per the projected agenda.
