प्रदेश के लिए खुशखबरी है। दिल्ली राष्ट्रमंडल खेलों में स्वर्ण पदक और एशियाई खेलों में कांस्य पदक जीतने वाली भारतीय डिस्कस थ्रोअर कृष्णा पूनिया ने इस सत्र की जबरदस्त शुरूआत करते हुए यहां एल्टियस ट्रैक क्रू थ्रो डाउन मीट में 63.67 मीटर दूरी तक गोला फेंककर रजत पदक पर कब्जा किया। इससे पहले 2011 में पूनिया का सर्वश्रेष्ठ प्रदर्शन 62.25 मीटर था जो उन्होंने अक्टूबर में हासिल किया था। पूनिया ने अमेरिका में चल रही प्रतियोगिता में अपने प्रदर्शन में जबरदस्त सुधार किया और रजत पदक पर कब्जा किया। प्रतियोगिता का स्वर्ण पदक बीजिंग ओलंपिक चैंपियन स्टेफनी ट्रैफटन को मिला जिन्होंने 67.74 मीटर की दूरी तक थ्रो करके अमेरिका का नया रिकार्ड कायम किया। कांस्य पदक गिया लुइस को मिला। रजत पदक जीतने के बाद पूनिया ने कहा कि मैं अपने प्रदर्शन से खुश हूं। यह इस सत्र में मेरी पहली प्रतियोगिता थी जिसमें मैंने मेरे व्यक्तिगत सर्वश्रेष्ठ प्रदर्शन 63.69 मीटर के काफी नजदीक थ्रो किया।
