The Unique Endeavor of Jaipur Foot on creating artificial hands

Being the globe’s chief organization that serves the physically challenged people with lots of care and concern, “Bhagwan Mahaveer Viklang Sahayata Samiti (BMVSS)” is always ready to provide all forms of support and help to the society through its amazing creations such as, non-natural calipers, limbs and other appliances & aids. Into the bargain, BMVSS offers these incredible services to the community at absolutely free of cost. To begin with, BMVSS has helped over 1.3 million polio patients and amputees by providing false calipers, limbs (the Jaipur foot variations) both in India and 26 different nations unanimously.  Despite offering a broad array of services for physically challenged people, BMVSS also spotlights on new research & progress in an attempt to blend its impeccable service with modern science.

The Origin of Bhagwan Mahaveer Viklang Sahayata Samiti (BMVSS):
In essence, Bhagwan Mahaveer Viklang Sahayata Samiti (BMVSS) is a worldly, non-profit organization that functions as an earthly, non-political, non-governmental, non-regional and non-sectarian association to facilitate the disabled people who are economically deprived. Bhagwan Mahaveer Viklang Sahayata Samiti (BMVSS) is a society that was established under the “Rajasthan Societies Registration Act” in the year 1975 to honor the 2500th year of “Nirvana of Bhagwan Mahaveer”, the noble of Jainism who always lectured on impartiality among all living beings and sympathy to every single life in the world. The initial proposal of establishing BMVSS, the charitable Jaipur foot organization conceived on the hospital bed in which Dr. Mehta, the Chief Patron & originator of BMVSS was occupied for almost 5 months. Mr. Mehta was under treatment (for fixing artificial limb) for a distressing accident that he met. At that time, he understood the real problems that most of the physically challenged people ought to face. In the main, he realized the struggles of deprived people to get non-natural limbs. For this reason, he established an altruistic organization called BMVSS to offer artificial limbs primarily for the underprivileged citizens.

The Far-fetched Wings of BMVSS:
BMVSS, a NGO boasts its head office at the Pink city of Jaipur, Rajasthan. BMVSS is a “Pan-Indian” association that has approximately 22 branches. The wings of BMVSS are spread across several states in India starting from Srinagar to Chennai & Ahmedabad to Guwahati. Urban metropolis of India, for instance, Mumbai, Delhi, Hyderabad, Chennai, Bengalore, Patna, Varanasi and many other states also have BMVSS limb fixing hubs. This NGO also boast 3 associate centers in Philippines, 2 in Pakistan and an enterprise in Colombia.

The Various inventions of BMVSS to encourage Humanity:
Jaipur Foot:
Jaipur Foot, a prosthetic leg that is rubber-based was created by BMVSS for inhabitants with “below-knee” abolition. This was created by “Masterji Ram Chander” under the supervision of Dr. P K Sethi in the year 1969. Jaipur Foot has transformed the lives of countless people. People who wear this artificial foot can run, climb trees and even pedal the bicycles. In conjunction with the shipment from BMVSS, Jaipur foot has gained a domestic name amongst populace. Jaipur foot not only facilitates in offering medical assistance to poor people but also transformed the lives of several economically and communally weak citizens. The “below-knee” prosthesis created by BMVSS has been planned in a clever manner. Basically, the shaft is made-up of regionally created, hard-wearing, high-solidity and premium “Polyethylene pipes (HDPE)”. The design of the socket is either “open-ended” with HDPE or a full contact design that has empty space inside with a “polypropylene” leaf. This specially made socket or shaft is fixed in the name of the Jaipur Foot. The well-designed “below-knee” prosthesis appears as a typical limb that paves way for an assortment of movement that is mandatory for regular human survival

Stanford-Jaipur Knee: The Stanford-Jaipur Knee is an innovative creation that was premeditated by the famous Stanford University of USA in company with the BMVSS lineup. Popularly known as the Jaipur Knee, the Stanford-Jaipur Knee mirrors the ordinary human ‘way of walking’ by offering adequate immovability in posture and normal movement.  Anchored in the polycentric notion, the Jaipur knee is created by means of the 4-bar connection geometry. This is actually made out of “Oil-soaked Nylon” material. Basically, the Jaipur Knee has an upper & lower body hunk, 2 side connections and a linkage in the middle that are bonded by 4 steel bolts. Jaipur Knee has changed the lives of more than 5,000 people and BMVSS has acknowledged an optimistic criticism for the suitability, fulfillment, performance and sturdiness of this novel invention. In 2009, the modern Stanford-Jaipur Knee has been praised by the popular “Time magazine” as one of the top 50 discoveries of the globe.
Above-knee prosthesis: The tactically created “Above-knee” prosthesis is made-up of regionally produced high-solidity, premium “polyethylene (HDPE) pipes”. The shafts used for the “Above-knee” prosthesis are made up of “ischial repression” and “ischial posture” categories. The above-knee prosthesis comes in various designs.
Calipers: The Calipers are the tools that help inhabitants with motor disabilities (for example, patients who are affected with polio) to move, walk and continue to remain mobile without any difficulties.

Artificial Hand: Owing to the awe-inspiring victory of Jaipur foot over years, Jaipur Foot creators are now in a great endeavor to create an artificial hand. BMVSS joined hands with Stanford University, USA to fabricate a prototype of an artificial hand in 2012. A prototype of an artificial hand beneath the elbow was created. This prototype is to carry out all the functions of a normal human hand. Following the initial trial, final version of artificial hand will be made available in few months.
Dr. Mehta, the creator & main supporter of BMVSS stated that, the approximate cost of an artificial hand or Jaipur Hand will be 1000 INR or 20 USD. This statement was given by Dr. Mehta while he gave an inspiring speech at the “Indian School of Business, Hyderabad” during the instigation of “iDiya Bootcamp”, a rivalry for skilled employed professional who are fascinated about creating business enterprises in order to make a communal impact in some way or other.
At the moment, the artificial hand has been embarked on from contractors who create the joints in accordance with the “Indian Standards Institutions (ISI)”. The artificial hand is known as the “Jaipur Hand”. For the most part, the BMVSS manufactures the sockets for Jaipur Hand. Currently, a key research venture on “below-elbow” artificial hand is in progress. In this research, Stanford University is in partnership with BMVSS. This new attempt is expected to be functionally more resourceful and easy on pocket.
