As the name suggest, Guru Gobind Singh (1666- 1708 C.E.) worship on the occasion of Guru Gobind Singh Jayanti.
History of the above occasion
Guru Gobind Singh Sahib was born on 22nd Dec, 1666 at the capital of Bihar, PATNA. He lived a very hard and dangerous life. Guru Teg Bahadur is the father of the Guru Gobind Singh has devoted his complete life in fighting with the Muslim rulers to provide the freedom to Hindus to worship, to control the pillage of goods and to stop the abduction of women. Guru Gobind Singh acquired great importance as a soldier as well as a saint during the mid period of the political state of affairs. He was completely devoted to god and emerged as a leader of rigid saintly principles. With this, he was devoted towards offering protection from inequality and oppression to all the people by practising Kshatradharma.
In the year 1699, he stands 5 men as his dear ones who belong to the lower caste and give them good blessings. They are considered as great instances of Khalsa who are shaped by the Guru Gobind Singh so that they can stand in the front to fight against discrimination. Guru Gobind Singh inspired them that they were held as a religious discipline and strict ethical and played an important role in fighting against Muslim rulers to get the freedom.
According to the Guru Gobind Singh “Those who call me God, will fall into the deep pit of hell. Regard me as one of his slaves and have no doubt whatever about it. I am a servant of the Supreme Being; and have come to behold the wonderful drama of life.”
Guru Gobind Singh has written something;
“God has no marks, no colour, no caste, and no ancestors, No form, no complexion, no outline, no costume and is indescribable.
He is fearless, luminous and measureless in might. He is the king of kings, the Lord of the prophets.
He is the sovereign of the universe, gods, men and demons. The woods and dales sing the indescribable.
O Lord, none can tell Thy names. The wise count your blessings to coin your names.”
What is the significance of the above occasion?
Guru Gobind Singh Sahib was the last and in numbers the tenth guru of the Sikhs. This jayanti is celebrated by the Sikhs on the occasion of the birth day of their guru Guru Gobind Singh Sahib at all the Gurudwaras all over India.
How to celebrate this occasion?
This occasion is celebrated by the Sikhs at the Gurudwaras with their processions which takes place at a large scale and with gathering for special prayers with full happiness and devotion to the Guru Gobind singh. The specific food prepared on this day or for this great occasion is the Prasad of Gudi Padwa or Ugadi which are the leaves with jiggery of neem tree and bitter in taste. They celebrate this occasion for getting prosperity and for their wellness. People in the morning go to the Gurudwara, read the Guru Granth Sahib and enjoy the Prasad known by a name of langar organized on a large scale for so many people.
What are the timings to celebrate this puja or occasion in a year?
As per the Nanakshahi calendar, this puja is celebrated only once in the year and on the fixed date 5th January of every year. And as per the Hindu Bikrami Calendar which is totally based on the moon year, it is known that their birth day or Guru Gobind Singh Jayanti is celebrated either in December or January and sometimes it is celebrated two times in a year also.

Among all the States of India, in Punjab, Guru Gobind Singh Jayanti is considered as more important and celebrated on a very large scale as this is the festival of Sikhs and most of the Sikhs are found in Punjab. In rest of the states also, Sikhs who are staying there celebrate this occasion.
