Vellayani Devi Temple

Vellayani Devi Temple is a most famous sacred centre sited at Thiruvananthapuramthat lies in the state of Kerala. The temple has gained its solid structure in 14th century AD. Its main centre of attraction is its pictureview. This temple is worshipped and visited in the honour of Goddess Kali. It is chracterised by other shrines of different gods i.e. Nagaraj, Ganapati and Lord Shiva. It also consists of an isolated sanctum called as Madan Thampuran. This temple finds its residence on the banks of stunning Vellayani Lake. It has the place among the historic sanctum of India. The temple follows the Dravidian architecture. People of all the religions are allowed to enter and to do worship in this temple. It is the temple which has high and esteemed position all over the India.

Getting There

One can reach Thiruvananthapuram by mean of three modes i.e. road, rail and air. There is a good bus network which connects Thiruvananthapuram to many other cities. There is also a good rail network to connect Thiruvananthapuram to many other cities. Thiruvananthapuram is connected to national and international flights. After reaching Thiruvananthapuram one can reach Vellayani Devi Temple by hiring bus or taxi.

There are many security services at Thiruvananthapuram which are provided to people for safety and protection. When To Visit

The best time to visit the Vellayani Devi Temple during the month from August to May. Its timings are 5:30 PM to 8:00 PM. On Sunday, Tuesday and Friday its timings are 12:30 PM to 2:00 PM. It is opened all the days of the week. There is no entry fee to visit the temple.

What To See And Do

The shrine consists of two entry gates which are known as Gopurams. These gopurams are adorned with divine statues of various god and goddesses. The temple’s roof is made up of bronze and is festooned with customary art-work which is a form of Dravidian architecture. The presiding deity is of goddess kali which in Malyayam Temple known as Thirumudi. The height and breadth of this deity is four and a half feet. The front portion of the deity is adorned with precious stones and pure gold. Pori, coconut, vara and chuttuvilakku are offered and distributed as Prasad.

There are three dharamshalas in Thiruvananthapuram which provide stay at reasonable price. They are: Jain Dharamshalas, Maharishi Vidya Mandir Public School, Dharmshala and Dharamshalain Ernakulam etc.

Festivals

The Vellayani Devi Temple is most famous for the celebration of the festival of Kaliyoottu Mahotsavam which takes place every three year during the month of February and April. Its celebration is continued for 50-56 days. It is the festival in which Devi is feed by women for pleasing her. She is feed by rice cooked with ghee, coconut, jiggery and other constituents.

There are many other places to visit around this temple. They are: Avuthamkode Lake, Parakovil Lake, Pechiparai Reservoir, Kadinamkulam Lake, Vellayani Lake and Rayanthiri Lake.
