Media Mentoring Pilot Project for the quality of reporting launched Jaipur, August 29,2018.
A pilot Media mentoring project for district-level grassroots journalists from Jaipur, Jodhpur, and Udaipur for four months was launched today in Jaipur along with senior level media mentors to provide hands-on technical guidance to enhance the quality of reporting and also address responsible and ethical reporting of social development issues.
Lok Samvad Sansthan, a media, and advocacy based Ngo, Jaipur, under the collaboration with UNICEF- Rajasthan, has launched this project.
Mrs. Suchorita Bardhan, Communication and Advocacy specialist of UNICEF Rajasthan, said that this project aims to focus at sensitizing the media on how to carry out factual and accurate reports on social developmental issues by incorporating data, evidence, and research. She said that mass media is a powerful tool for influencing public opinion and educating audiences,
Mrs. Bardhan added that recent innovations—the Internet, social platforms, and mobile devices—have upended how we receive, consume, share, and interpret the news. These are the most powerful tools to reach and influence more people—faster and cheaper—than ever, therefore need more attention.
Kalyan Singh Kothari, Secretary of Lok Samvad Sansthan, said that in this project media mentors would continuously guide the district level journalists in which 12 selected journalists from 3 districts from different news organizations included. These journalists will explore and identify subjects focusing on rural adolescent girls, who have been doing exemplary work to make a change in the society, new dimensions on child marriage/child rights, awareness activities of developmental flagship project, girl education, malnutrition, social protection programs, application of existing laws, campaigns, etc.
