Jal Mahal is located at a distance of 6.5 kms away from Pink City. This palace is standing inside the Man Sagar Lake. The Man Sagar Lake was formed by constructing a dam between the two hills by Sawai Man Singh. This is a best example of Rajputs architecture. The atmosphere of this palace always remains cool as it is situated inside the lake as well as also accompanied by the hills around the lake. This is a five storey palace, out of which the first four floors are submerged under water, only the top floor of this palace enjoys the sunshine and rain. Even after the 200 years of construction, still its architectural beauty is the same as it was before. This palace looks fabulous from the Nahargarh fort. Jal Mahal got its identity in the year 1799. The red stones of the palace look very beautiful during the monsoon season. The palace looks very beautiful from the Man Sagar Lake from where the flock of birds can be seen. The Mansagar Lake is also a bird watcher paradise as it serves as the home of a variety of local as well as migratory birds. Eco system of Man Sagar Lake is a favorite home for many resident and migratory birds. The Man Sagar dam is located on the eastern side of lake and it also provides a good scenic beauty to the Lake and the valley.

In the backdrop, Jal Mahal built in red sandstone provides a fabulous view. It is the best example of Rajput architecture of 18th century as it is partially submerged in water. On sightseeing, only the top floor of the Jal Mahal is visible and the palace seems a small structure with just one floor. While four of its floors are seen only by close inspection as they are submerged under water. The top floor offers a fanatastic view of architectural beauty of that time. The Man Sagar Lake surrounds the Jal Mahal Palace and acts as an artificial reservoir. The beautifully decorated doors and windows are a fine example of Maharaja Sawai Madho Singh style. After the monarchy rule in Rajasthan the palace is not properly taken care of and time has done much damage to its beauty. A deserted mystique is brought into the palace by its emptiness.
