Galta Temple- Ancient Hindu Pilgrimage Site

Many temples and pilgrimage sites are located in Jaipur near Sisodia Rani ka Bagh on Jaipur- Agra highway and is approximately one kilometer away Jaipur- Delhi highway on NH-8. For this reason, Jaipur is known as holy land of Saints or it is also known as Chhoti Kashi.

Galta Temple is an ancient Hindu pilgrimage site which is surrounded by Aravalli Hills. A saint named Galav spent his whole life in search of truth and thereafter this place is known as Galtaji. It has a Galta Kund which is a holy water tank and the water of the tank never dries. Taking bath in this holy Galta Kund is considered as pavitra. There are many other temples are also located in Galta ji. One important fact which is linked with this temple is that some part of Ram Charit Manas i.e. Ramayana is written in this temple by Goswami Tulsidas. Galta Ji located 20 kms away from Jaipur. It is said that the Galta kund has curative powers and because of it this is known as pilgrim centre. There is a small temple of Sun god which is built by Diwan Kriparam and is located on the top of the highest peak. This temple is seen from all parts of the city. In the mid of the hills, beyond the gardens there is a low hill where the old pilgrim centre Galtaji is. It is a sacred place for the Hindus as Hindus are mostly dedicated to Sun God. In the Galta Kund, freshwater spring seeps through the rocks in the otherwise dry valley. The fresh water is kept in two tanks. This temple is situated at the bottom of the hills in a lush landscape of trees and bushes. Image of Brahma, Vishnu, Parvati and Ganesha are also made on the walls of this temple. It is said that Galava rishi has done severe penance in Galta ji. There are pictures in the temple which shows state occasions and festival celebrations, polo match of maharajas and rasleela of Lord Krishna and Gopis.

The Galtaji water tank is fed by pure water from a perennial spring. It is an old pilgrimage site of the Hindus and is located in the Khaniya-Balaji Indian state of Rajasthan. This pilgrimage site has several sacred kunds and temples. The pilgrims take bath in these sacred kunds. It is folklore that galav rishi spent his whole life in Galtaji and did penance and practiced meditation .this site is also of great importance to Vaishnavite Ramandandis. The holy site consists of temples, pavilions, natural springs and holy kunds. The Temple of Galtaji is famous for its natural water springs. Galtajii offers a picturesque view of the Pink City. The attention of the visitors is grabbed by the natural water springs.

In the Kunds, the water of these natural springs is stored. There are seven Kunds in total and Galta Kund is the holiest among them and it never dries. It is considered as auspicious to take bath in the holy water of Galta Kund. Thousands of people take dip in these kunds and rinse out their sins.

This place is considered as sacred and holy pilgrim for the Hindus as saint Galav did Tapasaya for several years in Galtaji. But the temple was built by Diwan Rao Kriparam who was a courtier of Sawai Jai Singh II in the eighteenth century, much later. The temple looks like a mansion or a haveli because of its magnificent architecture.

The Galtaji’s main temple is built in pink stone and was built in the eighteenth century. This is one of the famous temples on the top of the hill. The temple contains a large complex as well and is known because of the large number of tribes of monkeys who lives here.
