Haridev Joshi University of Journalism and Mass Communication (HJUJ)

Journalists are born and not made! And where can one find a better place other than Haridev Joshi University of Journalism and Mass Communication (HJUJ). Named after Late Shri Haridev Joshi, former CM of Rajasthan, who was both a freedom fighter and journalist. Established in 2012 and located in Jaipur, capital of Rajasthan, HJUJ offers courses in journalism and mass communication at graduate, postgraduate and doctoral levels. The University offers an assortment of innovative courses with absolute combination of theory and practical.

The University’s slogan: “In Letter and Spirit” represents pledge for expression of truth as a whole, in its entirety, and not in words alone. The logo represents the revolving globe signifying the universality of the institution’s reach, scope and approach. Light and dark blue colour symbolizes learning and education. Well qualified, multi-disciplined and creative faculties provide opportunities for personal and professional enrichment of students.

The core philosophy is that journalistic expression should not merely represent the fact but also the essence—the whole truth, in its various shades and dimensions. This is to say; a mere representation of facts is not enough always as it may not necessarily tell the whole truth. The Vision of HJUJ is to design and develop programmes of global standards of media education that streams the current needs of the country. HJUJ ventures to serve as a media-laboratory to roll out ethically proficient experts in various divisions of expanding media industry. It aspires to generate cadre of students who are professionally-ethically conversant media-practitioners, saddled with learning, displaying integrity, social commitment, and secular values along with endorsing human rights.

HJUJ strives to be one of India's finest media and mass communication university. Under the directive of Rajasthan Government, it administers three core programmes – teaching, training and research. Master’s Degree in the field of Media Studies, Electronic Media and Public Relations and Advertising is provided for the duration of two years. The number of seats in each stream is limited to 30. Student intake is via qualifying Entrance Test and considering prior academic record. Application availability is well-informed via website: http://www.hjuj.ac.in/index.html. Aspiring students can submit their applications and download entrance roll number, exam center details etc through the same. On the edge is Ph. D programme, proposal in depth studies on specific aspects and spheres of media and communication, including media history. It is said that the beginning of all things are small, the students are provided with facilities like a well stocked Library, Studio and Computer Lab.

Some of the prime objectives include:

  • Train and encourage students for critical thinking to collect and present information accurately.
  • To enable students to become fully integrated members of the media industry.
  • Provide exposure to different kinds of media setups and assist hands-on experience of handling updated techniques and media tools.
  • To instill high levels of awareness and understanding to promote moderate and material values.

  • For academic year 2015-16, admission process is banned by Rajasthan Government which is very unfortunate. Students of the University protested against the decision at Suchna Kendra, Swai Mansing Road. Afterwards, they went to meet Hon. Minister Kali Charan Saraf, but was not able to meet him, so they went to BJP office, where it was asked to go Shiksha Sankul to meet him. Unfortunately students were not able to meet him, there too.
