Harshat Mata Temple : Abhaneri

This vast temple was built by the racial king Chauhan in the 8th century. King Chand was the ruler of Abhaneri which was used to call AbhaNagri over that time. This temple is situated in the double style shiver. The scheme of the temple involves the sanctum style of architect where a mandap is based on the pillars.

The sanctum and the cell also called Mandap is ciscurlar based architect where the outer walls involves the brahmans bahdra niches of gods which carved images. Religious fine sculptures seculars the scenes of life which is around the upper shiver which is also the main feature of the temple.

The statue of goddess Harshat is protected from all sides by boundary made of iron by the department of archaeology. In front f the temple is the Lord Hanuman temple which is between Harshat Mata temple and Chand Bawri, recognized from the earlier days of the construction of this temple. While entering the temple from the Iron Gate, one can notice the historical information about the temple mentioned at the left hand side by the board of archaeological department mentioning the temple as national protected monument.

The stairs in front of the head gate is formed in such a way that they immediately leads to the surface and also the above shiver of the temple. On the right hand side of the shiver is the Shiva temple including the Shiv-Panchayat situated at the same place. on the other hand, the secong shiver is an open round place onmiddle of which is the cell and Mandap of the temple is established. I the open round place of the shiver, the pillars decorated with beautiful carved images compiling with different sculptures in between.

The broken rocks all around the pillars is the joy of their art but somewhere a phrase of sorrow that why these beautiful excellent sculptures were fragmented. The image of mother Harshat within the small gate of iron bars is not visible but still the faith one carries in their heart pulls them to visit this temple. Godess Harshat symbolizes joy. It is said that King Chand used to love his territory and his people. He was also the lover of the historical architect, and thus he established this temple though fragmented.

History behind Harshat Mata Temple

During the age of reign, king Chand build a Temple Of Durga was built by him. It was believed by everyone that the peace and happiness in abhaneri is due to the blessings of goddess Harshat and thus, every lived prosper and joyful life under the advisory of goddess Harshat. During the rule of mughal and Turkish invaders in order to divide the religious beliefs, the magnificent temples of North India was destroyed, Harshat Goddess temple was one of them. Ever after destruction the local people tried to collect the small pieces and rebuild the temple. The temple was not the same, but was carrying the same faith and conviction that was there earlier. This temple was fragmented but still people have wholehearted faith and believe in goddess Harshat and still come here for the blessings.

The temple is around three thousand years old, but still the people are protected by the cherishment and devotion towards the temple one carry in their heart. This temple is a must visit to see the fragmented visit but still the same conviction of people towards the temple.
